Have you ever gone to a party or event where you knew nobody?
Did you feel the awkwardness of not knowing the way, wondering who is
who? You managed to get a cup of coffee and then just stood there on
the side wondering how you could join in. It feels so good if someone
welcomes you and is willing to help you join in, doesn't it?
To help you get to the church we provide the following key information. T
his information may not stop you feeling nervous but at least you will have
some idea of what is happening.
THE
TWO THINGS THAT STOP
PEOPLE GOING TO CHURCH
1.
Not knowing how to
get to the church.
Physical
accessibility means
we have included a range of
maps and directions
to make us easy to find.
We have
parking spaces nearly
at the door,
We have
signs and info on
children's groups, signs to the toilets and have
tried to not overlook
the common sense stuff to help you feel at home.
2.
Fear of not knowing
what is going to happen.
Emotional
accessibility
has to do with the comfort level someone has w
hen becoming involved in
this new situation.
Will
people be friendly
to me?
Are
there things in the
service I can relate to?
Am I
dressed right?
Do I
understand what the
preacher is saying?
Do I
like the music?
Hopefully
we have created
a worship experience that is
sensitive to people who may not use
religious
language.
