NOVEMBER
2005
FRANTIC FAREWELLS
Summary (for those short
on time to read the following magnificent epistle!!)
Arrived safely 1st of November.
All our luggage has since arrived in good shape. Ulaan Baatar (UB) Team
helping us to find our feet (no not literally!!!). Settling into our apartment
and our new country. Visas have been approved for our first year(actually
until next August). Trying to learn to deal with frustration of not knowing
how to complete the simplest of tasks in new culture. We started language
learning classes on Monday 14th November. Working at patiently waiting
on God. Weather freezing and getting freezinger!!
PRAYER
We thank God for:
- encouraging support and
fellowship as we left
- safe arrival
- our apartment
- the help from our team
in UB
- approval of visas
- our home support team
We pray for:
- God’s help in settling
into UB
- God’s enabling in trying
to learn a new language
- power to live out and
speak the good news of Jesus
- to locate a church family
- patience and trust to
depend on Jesus as we learn how to serve him faithfully in Mongolia
THE LONG VERSION
OK, now for all of you still
left reading after the summary The last month seemed a blur of busyness.
We seemed to be either getting packed, tidying up our house to leave or
trying to
catch up with family and
friends. It was so good to contact a number of you before we left. Unfortunately
we weren’t able to catch up with everyone. We are so thankful to all those
who made our farewell service. To have so many from such a variety of connections
gave us a real
sense of togetherness in
the work of the gospel in Mongolia. Saying good bye for a while to our
family was tough but we revelled in the love we have in Christ From good
byes to
greetings. More precisely
We were met at the
UB airport by Alison (originally from Sydney), Sarah, married to
Riki, who was tied up with
his wrestling classes (originally from Melbourne) and Naraa – the team’s
Mongolian master of serving ministries (more on these brothers and sisters
in Christ in later letters). These folk have helped us get our apartment
vaguely organised, get some basic furniture and appliances, stock up on
food, get the phone, internet connections etc set up. We are discovering
that without language the simplest things are incredibly difficult. This
drives us to depend on our heavenly father and appreciate his provision
of brothers and sisters in Christ.
We see our service at the
moment in three areas:
1) To work hard at our language
classes to seek to learn as much of the language and
culture as we can.
2) To seek out a church
family where we can share in fellowship and service.
3) To meet and learn from
others to see where we can be of service to the work of
Jesus in Mongolia. We will
be learning language at the Friends School (We hope this lives up to its
name!!!).
This will involve 3 hours
of lessons each day Monday to Friday. We are visiting a few churches to
try to understand a little of church life in Mongolia – mind you its not
easy listening to sermons where we recognise one word per 10 minutes and
the sermon lasts for one and a quarter hours! We hope to gradually make
contact with more and more local people. Our prayer is that God will open
opportunities for us to open the word of God to share the good news of
Jesus. We ask that you would pray for us as we seek to be of service to
our saviour and to discharge the responsibility you share in with
us.
Love from David and Wendy
